The first flight from Lisbon to Varadero of the World2Fly airline in the current summer season arrived at the air terminal of the famous Cuban resort.
The flight, from the Portuguese capital, arrived this Saturday at the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport with 430 passengers.
Juan Carlos Martínez, airline supervisor, stated to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) Just like last year, World2Fly encourages tourists from Lisbon to arrive at the Varadero aerodrome.
The manager explained that these flights will have a weekly frequency, on Saturdays, until the end of October, and that passengers “will enjoy their stay in the Hicacos Peninsula and the city of Havana.”
For his part, Andy Roger López, head of the Juan Gualberto Gómez passenger service department, told the ACN that for this airport “it is once again a pleasure to reopen the doors to tourism in Portugal”, and thus consolidate its leadership in air operations for tourism “with a quality service, efficiency and above all safety”.
World2Fly is a Spanish airline of the World2Meet (W2M) company, the travel division of the Iberostar hotel group, which has an important presence in Cuba.
The company began flying to Havana from Madrid in 2021 and has since expanded its frequencies to the island, incorporating the Varadero resort as a destination.
The Cuban authorities hope to receive 3.5 million tourists this year, as part of the recovery of the sector after the impact of the pandemic. However, the figure will not be easy to reach, according to experts.
The island reached its first million international visitors in 2023 at the beginning of May, a fact that It was announced during the realization in Havana of the International Fair of the sector FITCuba 2023.
