The European Union could sanction the daughters of Vladimir Putin

Madrid Spain.- The European Union (EU) could sanction the daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As reported The Wall Street Journal, The president’s daughters, Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova, are in the latest draft of the list of Putin’s relatives, officials and state companies that the EU intends to sanction for being part of Putin’s circle, responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The sanctions involve asset freezes and travel bans to member countries.

In relation to these measures, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, stated that pressure should be increased on Vladimir Putin, fundamentally after the massacre that occurred in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, considered “war crimes”.

Putin had daughters Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova with Lyudmila Putina, whom he divorced in 2013 after 30 years of marriage.

Maria Vorontsova, the eldest of the daughters, was born in 1985 in St. Petersburg. She studied Biology at the State University of this city and graduated from the Moscow State University. She currently works at the Moscow Endocrinology Research Center, specializing in pediatric growth disorders. She is married to the Dutch businessman Jorrit Faassen, who worked as a senior official for the Gazprom company.

While Katerina Tikhonova was born in 1986. She has a master’s degree in Physics and Mathematics and is currently the director of an artificial intelligence institute at Moscow State University. She is also vice president of the Sibur holding company, a Russian petrochemical and gas processing company based in Moscow, where the Russian government owns a high percentage of the shares.
