He left afloat Monday morning the body of the man who had fallen into the waters of the Montevideo portreported Telemundo (channel 12) and confirmed to The Observer the Navy spokesman, Alejandro Chucarro. He went to some 80 meters from where he fell.
The Navy had started the search on June 24 after the Single National Union of Sea and Allied Workers (Suntma) denounced the disappearance before the Prefecture. The force asked the company Reyla SA, where the victim worked, to hand over the material from the security cameras.
The fall of the worker was filmed in the harbor tugboat area, whose images were sent to the Navy and the man’s family. On July 28, without success, the teams of Navy divers ended the search.
Suntma vs. Reyla SA
The 26th of June Suntma denounced Reyla SA in a statement and repudiated “the negligent conduct of the company and the concealment of information requested by the relatives”. In this line, he pointed out that the sailor’s family since June 19 “systematically consulted the company without receiving news”.
The union denounced the company because “It took six days to find the accident in the recordings, knowing that the search was intense on the part of his family” and pointed out that Reyla SA did not cooperate “with the search for the partner.” “He also did not contact the family and does not want to provide them with the video showing the accident,” says the text available on the union’s Instagram.
It also maintains that “the company presumes that the sailor was drunk to disclaim responsibilityalthough it has not been verified.
On the other hand, the statement indicates that Reyla SA “does not comply with occupational risk prevention regulations since it does not have a sailor on duty who must carry out the PBIP controls (Protection of Ports and Ships for Companies) in the vessels disaffected from operations”.
