Call a new witness
According to what has been revealed by the reporters covering the hearings, the drug trafficker Tirso Martinez Sanchezbetter known as “El Futbolista”, will also testify against García Luna in the trial he faces for drug trafficking in New York, United States.
Prosecutors in the US plan for “El Futbolista” to prove that García Luna was part of a corruption scheme that enabled the Sinaloa and Beltrán Leyva cartels to traffic Colombian cocaine from Mexico to the US.

Martínez Sánchez was arrested by the Federal Police of Mexico on February 2, 2014 in León, in the state of Guanajuato, for his alleged ties to the cartels of Amado Carrillo Fuentes and the Beltrán Leyva brothers, as well as other Colombian groups. He was extradited to the United States at the end of 2015, the year since which he has been imprisoned.
“Football player” Martínez, a cocaine distributor in the United States for Mexican drug cartels, was also a key witness in the trial of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, “El Chapo” in 2019.
