The American Academy of Arts and Sciences elects an academic from UNAM as a member

The director of the UNAM Institute of Biology, Susana Aurora Magallón Puebla, was elected a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States, reported the highest house of studies. Likewise, the researcher at the Institute of Mathematics José Antonio Seade Kuri received the Biblos Award for Merit 2022 from the Lebanese embassy in Mexico.
Magallón Puebla is one of the 261 personalities chosen in 2022 by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is part of Class II, Biological Sciences, along with 10 other leading scientists from other universities such as Stanford, Princeton and Sydney.
The researcher is a biologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. She is a pioneer and group leader in macroevolutionary phylogenetics in Mexico; worldwide, she is a leader in research on floral evolution and diversification of angiosperms.
Meanwhile, in recognition of his exceptional professional and scientific career, researcher Seade Kuri received the Biblos Award for Merit 2022, which distinguishes Mexicans of Lebanese origin who have contributed to the sciences, arts and humanities.
The award was presented to him by the Lebanese ambassador in Mexico, Sami Nmeir; the president of the Biblos Award Association, Alejandro Kuri, and the president of the Board of Directors of the Lebanese Center, Michel Chamlati.
Seade Kuri is a doctor in mathematics, a world academic leader who has contributed to forming research schools in Mexico and Latin America, in addition to supporting the scientific development of the country in various fields. He founded the Mexican Mathematical Olympiad and in 2020 he was elected vice president of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
