The letter “Z”, both on flags and in propaganda campaigns, has become a symbol of support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The first times he was seen gracing Russian tanks, communications trucks and rocket launchers moving towards the Ukrainian border.

According to CNN, military experts interpret the “Z” as “Za pobedy”, which is Russian for “for victory”, or as “Zapad”, which means “West”. Meanwhile, others suggested that the letter “Z” could stand for the Kremlin’s supposed “number one target,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In any case, it symbolizes support for the invasion and has been taken over by “a chilling new nationalist movement.”

Still others allege that the “Z” refers to the Kremlin’s justifications for implementing its operations in Ukraine, stating that it is about “denazifying and demilitarizing” the country.

During the month of March, Cuba abstained in the two votes that took place in the United Nations to condemn Russia for the invasion of Ukraine. However, the majority of the member countries of that international organization voted against the Russian invasion. In advance, the Cuban regime, along with Russia, Venezuela, China and Eritrea, had opposed holding an urgent meeting, called after the failure of a similar vote in the Security Council.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the Cuban regime has expressed its support for the Kremlin, favoring Russian narratives in the official propaganda apparatus.

Some 48 hours after the attack on Ukraine, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) blamed the United States for the invasion of Ukraine. He said that the northern country, in its “dedication” to “continue the progressive expansion of NATO towards the borders of the Russian Federation, had led to a scenario, with implications of unpredictable scope, that could be avoided.”
