Surgeon Luis Picard-Amí warns of the problem of ‘raffles or susu’ to be able to perform cosmetic surgeries

Dr. Luis Picard-Amí, president of the Panamanian Association of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, provided this Wednesday a series of recommendations to avoid falling into the hands of unsuitable people who practice cosmetic surgeries.

Firstly, the surgeon highlighted that in Panama there is a technical council that endorses and certifies them. “You can enter the pages and find who are the certified doctors in Panama. There is an application from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) where one looks for a doctor, if he comes out or does not appear, ”he added.

In addition, the Panamanian Association of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery has a website where you can also enter to find out if the doctor is certified or not. “The doctor should be asked questions and talk to other patients about how they did,” she said.

Picard-Amí indicated that one should not go to a person who does not have all their papers in order.

“Plastic surgery is very popular, because the vast majority look good and have no problems, those who look bad are those who want to skip corners or steps,” he said.

The doctor did not overlook the well-known and famous called “susu” to which many people who wish to undergo cosmetic surgery resort. “One of the problems we have are the famous raffles (susu), where everyone puts in a certain amount of money to see who wins it and operates with someone else’s money. Those people are definitely not going to send you to the most qualified doctor”

He stressed that, if they are going to treat him in a hotel or aesthetic, “we are wrong”, since the doctor must have an office with the facilities to attend; find out which hospital you will be having the procedure at.

It should be noted that last week it was learned that two Panamanian women lost their lives after undergoing cosmetic surgeries through the popular “all-inclusive plans” abroad, while two others are fighting for their lives in a medical center in the country.
