The Transitory Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court declared null and void the sentence that acquitted Guillermo Bermejo of the crime of affiliation to a terrorist organization and ordered a new oral trial against the congressman from Peru Democrático.
Peru21 learned that the court, presided over by Supreme Judge Ricardo Brousset, warned that the higher court did not duly assess the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, which was mostly testimonies from terrorists who accused him of going to the Shining Path camps in Vraem.
The collaborators identified Bermejo as ‘comrade Che’ and that he received political and ideological indoctrination, as well as the use of weapons, by the Quispe Palomino.
According to the key witness TDTV-2008, the current parliamentarian had the task of “flying” terrorist propaganda “in Ayacucho, Huancayo and some areas of Vraem.”
Although the collaborator admitted that 2009 was the only time he saw Guillermo Bermejo in the terrorist camps, he revealed that he heard Orlando Borda Casafranca, “comrade Alipio,” conversing with him on the phone on more than one occasion.
“’Che’ communicated by cell phone with comrades ‘Antonio’ and ‘Alipio’; On several occasions I noticed that ‘Alipio’ communicated by telephone and I heard him say “hello, cousin ‘Che’” and I don’t know what they were talking about”, he recounted.
The Supreme Chamber voted yesterday, December 29, and the sentence will be published in the coming days.
