Student movement must preserve the right to education in the region

The Latin American and Caribbean student movement has the task of continuing to fight so that the right to education is achieved in all the countries of the region, highlighted this Wednesday Héctor Rodríguez, territorial liaison of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), during the XIX Latin American and Caribbean Student Congress (CLAE) that takes place in Venezuela.

«The task is to continue fighting because the countries give the right to education and in the conquered nations, work to maintain that right. If political power is lost in countries where we have access to education, we must continue fighting to maintain it,” Rodríguez stressed during his speech.

Rodríguez stressed that “although it seems like a struggle that has been overcome, the student movement must continue to fight for education and for the State to exist and defend the resources, policies, and human resources to defend the rights to education.”

In this sense, he indicated that “it is not enough to say in the United Nations that we all have the right to education, if that is not transformed into public policies, personnel, infrastructures, without all these elements the young person cannot exercise the right; They can disguise it with meritocracy, that if the one with the most knowledge has access, but if the teacher is not there, the policies, the budget, I am young, I cannot exercise the sacred, universal right to education.

What has been achieved must be taken care of

PSUV member Héctor Rodríguez called on young people to be attentive and aware of their achievements, because they are not eternal and must be taken care of.

«We do not believe that once a right has been conquered, that right we will have it forever, if political power is lost, the right achieved, have the guarantee that those who confront us can snatch and eliminate those rights. In short, equality is lost, so not all of us have to study”, he said.

CLAE Congress 2022

Between 2,000 and 2,500 students participate in the debates to elaborate concrete action agendas, with the aim of promoting anti-imperialism in Latin America during the 19th Latin American and Caribbean Student Congress (CLAE), explained the secretary of the Andean Region of the Latin American Continental and Caribbean Students (Oclae), Engerly Cuevas, referred to an AVN note.

Cuevas stressed that this international meeting’s main objective is to gather the ideas of OCLAE members and those invited to the congress, to prepare the action agendas that will be implemented in each member country of the organization.
