Via a press release, the Siderúrgica del Orinoco (Sidor) reported that, in compliance with the Productive Recovery Plan planned for this 2023, a group of “unrequired” workers will return to their work activities for the next start-up in productive areas of the Midrex plant that produces iron) and Lime Plant.
Despite the fact that the president of the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana, Pedro Maldonado, assured that by December 2022 all personnel listed as “not required” would be reinstated to their jobs, the state company confirmed that the reinstatements will be progressive, according to the reactivation of the different work areas.
To receive these workers, who have been out of work for approximately two years due to the pandemic and the paralysis of different areas of the state, a welcome ceremony was organized in the Hugo Chávez Frías Room, located in the Human Talent building of sidor.

The director of the area, Soraira Pérez, received the 100 workers who are returning to their jobs. During the activity, Pérez stated that “it is a moment of joy for the working class. We need you here with your commitment and responsibility to build this company”.
According to testimonies of Sidoristas interviewed by this means, there are approximately 3,000 employees who remain as “not required”, a term that the company’s narrative has modified by workers with “protected salary”.
However, the president of the state company, Néstor Astudillo, assured during the ceremony that they have 30 operating plants and that they have managed to recruit more than 5,100 workers.
In this regard, Astudillo maintained that “only with production can the purchase of inputs, spare parts and raw materials be guaranteed.” These statements refer to the rejection by the state company of the wave of work stoppages and protests that workers have staged in the last month.

“We are going to give ourselves the salary with production. This year we are targeting more than 1.5 million tons of steel. To produce is to win”, the manager yelled.
The workers who are reintegrating into the company must attend a training and management workshop, run by the Jesús Rivero Bolivarian University of Workers. After completing this training, they will be able to rejoin the productive areas.
Workers interviewed by Correo del Caroní rejected this requirement, stressing that they are professionals with experience and training who do not need to go through these training courses.
