The cost of the basic food basket (CBA) registered an increase of 3.1% in November and thus registered a significant slowdown compared to October when it marked a rise of 9.5%.

As reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec), in November a typical family -composed of two adults and two minors- he needed to receive income of $64,012 in order not to find himself in a situation of indigence.

The agency also reported that the cost of the total basic basket (CBT), which in addition to food measures clothing products and services, increased 4.4% last month, for which the same family group needed to have $145,948 in order not to fall below the poverty line.

In this case, a sharp slowdown was also registered in relation to October, when the total basic basket had registered an increase of 9%.

Meanwhile, in the first eleven months of the year, the basic food basket increased 94.2% and the total basic basket, 91.7%, expanded the INDEC.

And, in the last twelve months, the food basket accumulated an increase of 101.8% and the total basic basket, 97.4%, detailed the official agency.

This deceleration coincides with that registered in the national Consumer Price Index (CPI), which in November it rose 4.9%, well below the 6.3% registered in October, INDEC reported days ago.

From the economic portfolio they explained on that occasion that “the confirmation of a gradual process of inflationary reduction, which although it may have some uneven months, is expected to set a trend during the first four months of 2023.”

In that sense, the impact of some of the price policies and agreements that have been implemented from the Palacio de Hacienda was highlighted which would have allowed, for example, the food segment to be the one with the lowest growth of the 12 items used by the INDEC methodology.

The basic food basket is determined taking into account the essential kilocalorie and protein regulatory requirements for an adult male between 30 and 60 years of age, of moderate activity, to cover those needs for a month.

The foods and the quantities were selected based on the consumption habits of the population, based on the information provided by the National Household Expenditure Survey.

Since the nutritional requirements are different according to the age, sex and activity of the people, it is necessary to make an adaptation that reflects the characteristics of each member of a household in relation to their nutritional needs.

For this, the energy requirement (2,750 kcal) of the adult male is taken as the reference unit and relationships are established based on the sex and age of the people.

A) Yes, the basic food basket for an adult was determined in November at $20,716 and the total basic basket amounted to $47,232.

For a three-member household made up of a woman, the CBA $50,961.

To determine the total basic food basket (CBT), the CBA is extended, considering non-food goods and services.

The CBA is valued each month with the prices surveyed by the Consumer Price Index of Greater Buenos Aires (IPC-GBA).
