Senapred decrees a red alert in Chillán and Chillán Viejo due to forest fires

The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) decreed a red alert on Wednesday night for the communes of Chillán and Chillán Viejo due to two forest fires: one developed in the Quilmo sector and the other in the Caserío Linares 2 sector.

Senapred updated the alert at about 3:00 p.m. this Thursday. At that time, the Service reported -with data from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf)- that the incident had consumed an approximate area of ​​130 hectares and has affected four structures, with damage to be assessed.

From Senapred they highlighted in a statement that this fire has an “extreme behavior close to Army units and populations of the Chillán commune.”

Regarding the fire in Caserío Linares 2, the Service indicated that it has consumed an approximate area of ​​10 hectares. It takes place “close to inhabited sectors in Caserío de Linares, in the commune of Chillán Viejo,” they pointed out.

With the update of the red alert, “all the necessary and available resources will be mobilized, in additional support to what has already been deployed by Conaf, Firefighters and the National System of Prevention and Response to Disasters. In this way, action will be taken to control the situation , given the extent and severity of the event,” the Service said.

“Likewise, the Ñuble Region maintains a Preventive Early Warning due to the threat of forest fires, in force since January 30, 2023,” he added.
