NEW YORK.- The president of the branch of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in this city, Frank Cortorreal, expressed that the “triumph of comrade Abel Martínez, chosen this Sunday as the organization’s presidential candidate during the Consultation for Presidential Candidates (CONAP), is a triumph for democracy in the Caribbean country”.
He also stated that “it is a victory for the party system and above all for the PLD and the Dominican people.”
“The sectional PLD congratulates comrade Martínez for having won the citizen consultation recently held throughout the national territory, with the participation of more than half a million Dominicans, and more than 60% of the votes,” he said.
“Also to the other fellow applicants”, indicates Cortorreal in a press document.
The PLD released bulletin number 9 on Monday afternoon, confirming the first place in the level of sympathy in the population for Abel Martínez, with 62.84% of the total queries issued.
It is detailed in the bulletin that, with 2,459 Computed Consultation Centers, equivalent to 90.01% of the total of 2,732, 437 thousand 355 queries issued are recorded.

Of that total issued, 274,821 (62.84%) belong to Martínez; 85,855 (19.63%) to Francisco Domínguez Brito; 67,193 (15.36%) to Margarita Cedeño; 4,447 (1.02%) to Maritza Hernández; 3,112 (0.71%) to Karen Ricardo; and 1,927 (0.44%) to Luis de León, who had withdrawn to support Cedeño.
273 Consultation Centers are still pending to be computed, equivalent to 9.99% of the total that were enabled, which does not alter the final results at all.
For his part, Abel Martínez, upon being declared the winner, received congratulations from the president of the party, Danilo Medina; the general secretary, Charlie Mariotti; of the electoral commission; of his wife Nahiony Reyes, and of his internal rivals during the process, thanking God for giving him strength.
“Today we finish this first stage with faith in the future, with the firm decision that in 2024 the PLD will return to power,” he emphasized.
“This victory is not for Abel Martínez -he said-, this victory is for the PLD and with the PLD this victory is for Francisco Domínguez Brito, my esteemed colleague, friend and brother; from the compañera Margarita Cedeño who called us, she congratulated us, and together with the compañeras Maritza Hernández, Karen Ricardo; together with the party and the Dominicans who will work hand in hand for this country”.
He pointed out that the PLD, founded by Juan Bosch in 1973, “is open to all Dominicans who are interested in the country and who want to reap the best achievements for Dominican women and youth.”
