Samuel García asks the population to report those who waste water in the Metropolitan Area

Monterey, NL. In the state government’s crusade to recover water that is illegally extracted from the Monterrey Water and Drainage Services network, it goes all out. Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda asked the population in his Instagram stories to report directly if they see people watering gardens, washing the car with a hose or wasting water.

“Dear: if you see people watering gardens, washing their car with a hose, wetting the sidewalk, companies wasting water, sports parks irrigating green areas with drinking water, leaks in houses, businesses or streets, make the direct report by DM”, he indicated.

However, the president did not specify which sanctions will be applied to those who waste water.

As it will be remembered, those who have water intakes, who consume more than 70 cubic meters per second per month, will have water supply reducers applied and will have to pay fines of between 8 and 10 installments, that is, 770 and 962 pesos.

“Aguachicoleros”

In one of his Instagram stories, Governor Samuel García shows a huge dam, and says: “These Aguachicoleros deserve jail. Another ranch, another dam, thousands of liters stolen from the people of Nuevo León.”

“At this time it has already been closed by Conagua, the water is recovered to the Water and Drainage network and a Criminal File is presented.”

Several of his followers on Instagram asked him why he has so far discovered the theft of water from the dams, and how many owners he has arrested.

For his part, the general director of Monterrey Water and Drainage Services, Juan Ignacio Barragán Villarreal, confirmed that after detecting and closing clandestine intakes of 400 liters per second in Los Ramones and an additional 600 liters in Linares, they added 1,000 liters per second that they were recovered.

These works, which were carried out by Agua y Drainaje in coordination with the state and the National Water Commission (Conagua), will help incorporate water into the El Cuchillo – Monterrey and Linares – Monterrey aqueducts, respectively.

The state official explained that water from a river that has an illegal dam in the municipality of Hualahuises will also be added; an illegal reservoir next to the Cola de Caballo, in Santiago and a lake and two illegal dams next to the Ramos River, in Allende.

He pointed out that, according to the Intergovernmental Inspection Program, 13 complaints have been made for misuse of water, 261 reductions or closures and 2,564 leak reports have been successfully addressed. Likewise, he reported that 1,298 liters per second of water have been recovered due to leaks.
