Madrid Spain.- The Russian government will lift the coronavirus restrictions on air services to 52 “friendly” countries, among which it did not include Cuba.

As reported by the agency interfaceRussian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced this Monday: “As of April 9 we lift the fight against the coronavirus and the restrictions that were applied to our regular and charter flights between Russia and other countries.”

“Air services are being resumed with 52 nations, including Argentina, India, China, South Africa and other friendly countries,” Mishustin said during a meeting with representatives of the United Russia party.

Restrictions are also lifted to: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Costa Rica, the DPRK, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

So far, from Russia you can fly without restrictions to a total of 15 countries, including Mexico, Qatar and states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The opening is due to the fact that the incidence rate of the disease is decreasing and therefore “it is time to expand the accessible destinations for Russian airlines.”

None of these countries has expressed its support for the sanctions applied to Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.

After the cancellation of the flights between Cuba and Russia, at the end of February, thousands of Cubans were stranded in Russia.

On March 19, the Government of Havana assured that he was taking steps to solve the situation of the Cubans trapped in Russia, although he did not specify how many citizens are involved.

The ban on flights to Cuba also has affected the plans of the Tourism authorities on the Island, which expected Russians to represent up to 20% of foreign arrivals in 2022.
