Retail trade retreats 0.1% in October, says IBGE

Brazilian retail trade sales volume dropped 0.1% from September to October this year. It is the third consecutive fall in the indicator, which accumulates in the quarter a loss of 1.8%, according to data from the Monthly Survey of Commerce (PMC), released today (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).Retail trade retreats 0.1% in October, says IBGE

The sector also retreated 7.1% compared to October 2020. In the year and in 12 months, the retail trade has rises of 2.6%.

From September to October, five of the eight activities surveyed had a drop in sales volume: books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (-1.1%), furniture and household appliances (-0.5%), fuels and lubricants (- 0.3%), supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco (-0.3%) and pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, perfumery and cosmetic articles (-0.1%).

On the other hand, three activities increased: fabrics, apparel and footwear (0.6%), other articles for personal and domestic use (1.4%) and office, computer and communication equipment and supplies (5.6%) .
