Dominican Gregory Méndez and Colombian Carlos Yépez underwent a medical evaluation when they were taken out at 11:16 local time, according to information provided by the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom), which operates the mine, and were later transferred by air to the Ramón De Lara Teaching Military Hospital, in Santo Domingo.
According to Rivera, “clinically they look good,” but their vital organs need to be monitored after spending so many days inside the mine, mainly respiratory and kidney functions.
The minister recalled that they have permanently had basic life support inside the mine and have been well oxygenated and receiving water and food, which has allowed, as those affected themselves have said, to feel “confident and calm”.

“They do not have a cough, they do not have respiratory or fever disorders, the blood counts are normal”, as revealed by the first tests that have been carried out on them, said the official, who congratulated the people responsible for the monitoring protocol of the two miners.
Regarding food, Rivera specified that during these days they have only taken liquids, so it is necessary to observe how their body reacts when returning to a solid diet, and they will have to make a gradual transition.
The director of the Ramón de Lara Military Hospital, José Richardson, pointed out that the workers will be in the health center for a maximum of 72 hours and ruled out that they will have physical sequelae, although they may present post-traumatic stress, so they will be monitored by the health department. psychology.
The rescue of Gregory Méndez and Carlos Yépez was achieved “after accessing the new diversion tunnel, referred to as rescue route B, one of the two routes that had been created since the beginning of the rescue plan to reach the point where they were the two miners.
More than 70 expert miners in underground mining from Cormidom participated in the operation, while the rescue team was supported by 40 technicians in the areas of geology, geotechnics and mining engineering from the Dominican Republic, Australia, the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Peru .
The president of the country, Luis Abinader, arrived at the site and spoke with Méndez and Yépez Ospina before they were transferred to the hospital.
