Report from security forces revealed that January closed with a 47.7% decrease in homicides

Homicides and the flow of migrants in the province of Darién decreased in the first month of 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year.

The security authorities revealed on Tuesday the operational results that were executed in January in terms of arrests and seizures, as well as the management of the migration issue.

The National Police revealed that in the month of January there was a reduction of more than 47.7% of homicides.

John Dornheim, director of the National Police, explained that comparatively to what homicide refers to, in 2020 there were 58 homicides, in 2021 there were 44 homicides and in 2022 it closed with 23 homicides.

The director of the Police indicated that the majority of the homicide cases in January 2022 were related to organized crime. The mobiles show that 78% were committed with firearms, 17% with a knife and 5% with other elements. The captures added up to 26, of which 4 were minors.

Other data revealed by the Police is that 992 raids were carried out, 4,241 people have been captured, 191 operations against micro-trafficking and drug trafficking, 248 weapons seized, 2,084 packages of drugs seized, $30,804.90 in money seized, 53,004 infractions placed.

Regarding migration, the National Director of the National Border Service (Senafront), Oriel Ortega, said that in January 2022 there was a decrease in the migratory flow, going from 500 migrants to less than 200, however he foresees an increase with the passing of the months with the dry season that allows the roads to become more passable and faster, compared to the rainy season.

According to Ortega, at this time, nationalities have varied, since those from Asia and Africa are the most predominant, while Haitians and Cubans have decreased. He announced that the camps, despite not being full, are being reinforced and conditioned so that the migrants have all the main services. Currently there is camping capacity for a thousand people.

2021 closed with a migratory flow of hundreds 330 thousand people, given the daily passage of more than a thousand migrants in the months of June, July to September, who arrived as a result of the opening that Colombia made in its borders in May 2021, which Immediately, 14,000 migrants arrived, who were in the community of Necoclí, reported the director of Senafront.

Apart from the immigration issue, Senafront carried out 7 operations against the sale of drugs, seized 131 doses, 3 firearms, 11 ammunition, 11 packages of drugs and 35 arrests, as well as the execution of 31,926 preventive actions. 70% of these actions were on public roads; which indicates that the provision of the police service is being carried out on the ground and broken down as follows: 12,905 preventive routes, 6,910 control points, 3,537 visits to commercial premises, 2,338 verification of people, 854 verification of boats, 729 prophylaxis and 657 support health authorities.

Meanwhile, the general director of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan), Jeremías Urieta, explained that the entity registered 1,258 doses of seized drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and crack, as well as 11 drug packages totaling 26 kilos, illegal mining operations , seizure of illegal firearms and arrests of 37 people.

“The operations against the sale of drugs added up to 16 with 1,258 doses that we took off the street and 18 arrests with sentences of up to 18 and 120 months in prison,” Urieta stressed.

The Senan also carried out 15 offices in crimes related to drugs, homicides, armed robbery and sexual abuse. In addition, of 4 weapons seized, 132 ammunition. In terms of contraband cigarettes, 6 million units were retained, totaling the value of half a million.
