This Saturday, April 23, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, paid a visit to Uruguay in order to hold meetings with the country’s authorities. Within this framework, Foreign Ministers Çavuşoğlu and Francisco Bustillo proceeded to sign the terms of reference to start the negotiation process leading to a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

At the same time, they attended the official inauguration of the Embassy of Turkey in Uruguay, in whose surroundings a group of people belonging to the Armenian community gathered. According to some videos that emerged on the networks, the protesters expressed their discomfort at the visit of the Turkish foreign minister, whom they described as a “murderer” and asked him to withdraw from Uruguay. At that moment, Çavuşoğlu made a salute that caused annoyance in the Armenian community.

Council Cause Armenia posted the video on Twitter, stating that Turkey’s foreign minister walked out “making the gesture of the Turkish terrorist organization Gray Wolves to the Armenian protesters. A shameful gesture that demonstrates the real purpose of this visit”.

“We regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shelters those who claim terrorism”, sentenced the Armenian Cause Council.

To Parliament

In this framework, the senator of the Broad Front Liliam Kechichian (of Armenian origin) also echoed the Turkish Foreign Minister’s message.

“The Turkish foreign minister making the salute of the Gray Wolves terrorist paramilitary group banned in many places. A message of hatred for the Armenian community that was demonstrating peacefully. We will ask to summon Foreign Minister Bustillo to Parliament, to raise an unacceptable situation, ”said the legislator on her Twitter account.
