The Minister of Tourism, David Colladostarted this Sunday the works for the reconstruction of the recreational infrastructures of the pier of San Pedro de Macorisfor a cost higher than 260 million pesos.
The project of reconstruction of the coastline in Malecon of San Pedro de Macoris comprises 1.84 kilometers and includes the creation of a linear park with a total intervention area of 60,000 m2, within which work will be carried out on 12,000 m2 corresponding to sidewalks.
Through the work, an intervention will be carried out landscaping along the boardwalk, the central islet and the sea front with areas of recreation:
- Plazas,
- childish games,
- outdoor gym,
- and volleyball court,
- among others.
Opportunity for merchants
During the act in which the work began, Collado highlighted the impact that the work will have as tourist attraction and the benefits that will be obtained by small and medium merchants that operate in their vicinity.
“We cannot continue living with our backs to the sea. This intervention will mark a before and after in San Pedro de Macoris”, said the official.
In addition to the work to adapt the recreational space, there will be built nine double sales modules with its deposits and equipment: (freezer, refrigerator, sink, tables, chairs and stools); modules of bathrooms and offices of Politur with its equipment.
In the intervention of the 1.84 kilometers of the sea coast, the spaces will be distributed in seven zones: Double bed; one that gives access to the beach (Zone 1 – 2) and another for the sales area on the beach (Zone 3), where the sales modules will be built.
The project, which is carried out through the Infrastructure Execution Committee for Tourist Areas (Ceiztur) del Mitur, will have eight accesses from the sidewalk to the green area of the coast, as well as other small places for recreation.
