Jesse Arias was removed from his position as head of the Executive Directorate of the Judiciary (DEM), according to sources from the judicial system.
Arias will be replaced by Silio Sánchez, substitute magistrate of the Constitutional Chamber.
The decision to change the director of the DEM was proposed by Judge Gladys Gutiérrez, president of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and supported in the Plenary Chamber.
Sánchez had already held the leadership of the DEM in 2015, precisely when Gladys Gutiérrez was in charge of the highest court in the country.
The visit
In another fact, the General Inspector of Courts, Gladys Requena, paid a visit to the Palace of Justice in Caracas on Wednesday to check the operation of the file distribution mechanism.
Requena sought to “verify the correct attention and access to justice directed to the defendants from the Document Reception and Distribution Unit (Urdd)”, the Inspector wrote on her twitter account.
“I was able to verify the entire document distribution process, the load of these written references (files, complaints, among others), the computer mechanism and the entire automation process used,” said Requena, who was received at the Palace of Justice by Lisbeth Hernández, president of the Criminal Judicial Circuit of Caracas.
The file distribution mechanism (Independence System) is administered by the Executive Directorate of the Judiciary (DEM), judicial sources said.
The system suffers continuous crashes and that is when the distribution of the files is done manually, the source limited.
Requena’s visit to the Palace of Justice occurs two days after an Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office was activated there to investigate complaints, one of them related to the release of 5 defendants for aggravated robbery, without the proper release ticket.
Those released are: Jhoan Barrios, Iris Besabe Batista, Iris Cisneros, José Gregorio Fuentes and Carlos Jesús García Avilé.
