Regime approves General Budget 2023 with more items for the Army and Police

The Sandinista steamroller in the National Assembly approved the General Budget Law of the Republic for the year 2023, establishing that “the country’s resources will be invested, to continue reducing poverty in Nicaragua.” This time the biggest winners will be the Nicaraguan Army and the Police.

This initiative contemplates an amount of 109 thousand 989.5 million córdobas that will be distributed to the subordinate institutions by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. The official document details that the military institution will be assigned 4,355.8 million córdobas, 440.6 million more than in 2022.

Sandinista deputy Carlos Emilio López, vice president of the Committee on Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, said during this morning’s plenary session that “this budget will boost the process of reducing poverty in the countryside and the city. In the same way, the reduction of poverty in the Pacific and the Caribbean, the reduction of poverty in the 153 municipalities of Nicaragua and in all sectors of society.

For his part, the official Wálmaro Gutiérrez stated that the projections are “fully financed by the fiscal effort of Nicaraguans and without a deficit.” In his speech, he highlighted the “confidence” of the business sectors that “have contributed so that today we have a budget with a surplus.”

The Police, which is directed by Francisco Díaz, in-law of the dictatorial couple, will receive 4,311 million córdobas by 2023, 262.9 million more than the current year. In 2022, the institution, accused of being the repressive arm of Ortega and Murillo, received 4 thousand 48.1 million córdobas, an amount higher than the 3 thousand 760 million destined in the year 2021.

According to the PGR 2023, the total expenditure on the services of “public order and security and Defense”, the amount of 13,713.8 million córdobas is assigned, which represents 13% of the Nicaraguan budget for the next year. In 2022, the total expenditure of this sector was 12 thousand 396.2 million córdobas.

The official document of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (MHCP) indicates that these items to the Police and the Army are to “achieve a better quality of life for Nicaraguan families” on issues such as protection and security, defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, the fight against crime, drug trafficking, organized crime, human trafficking, etc.
