Mayor Iván Arias reported yesterday that in 2022 deep repairs will be made to educational units when the reformulated Annual Operating Plan (POA) is approved and an amount of 20 million Bolivians is available.

In 2021, the Mayor said that the commune had 3,000 Bolivians to attend each school, an insufficient amount to improve conditions.

“We had an investment per educational unit, imagine, of 3,000 bolivianos. What can you do with 3,000 bolivianos, more than the graffiti of some little thing; that is why from the reformulated POA this year we are sending to make an investment of more than 20 million Bolivians to really make spare parts”, said Arias.

The Mayor’s Office of La Paz carried out the maintenance of 209 educational units from November 2021 to January 2022, before the start of classes. The work carried out by personnel from the Municipal Secretariat of Public Infrastructure (SMIP) focused on painting classrooms, fixing sanitary and electrical systems.

Mayor Arias assured that the arrangements made in the educational establishments were in accordance with the budget that was planned for the year 2021.

“There are educational units that you paint inside, but the ceiling has a hole, you change the frame but there is no glass. There are educational units that have 800 students, but there are only four bathrooms for women, we have to expand the battery. It is a significant investment that we will make this year,” explained Arias.

The intervention carried out since November was classified by Arias as “primary care” and that in 2022 the arrangements will be much more comprehensive.
