Judge Alejandro Recarey, who ordered this Thursday the suspension of the vaccination against the coronavirus to the MSP (which caused rejection in political authorities and health experts), on this day released a statement in which he defended his decision stating that “it must remain It is very clear that there is no attack on the freedom of vaccination.
Regarding the Judgment, he reported that it “indicates that no government can sign secret contracts, in the ignorance of public opinion, related to points that may imply risks to the human rights of the population. In no case neither with individuals, nor with national companies, nor with foreign companies».
He also indicated that his ruling does not prohibit the vaccination campaign but rather “suspends it provisionally and temporarily.”
He also stated that “even in the hypothesis of non-compulsory nature, all medical acts must be reported. That is to say, for that matter, that the composition of the substances that are inoculated be disclosed; and its risks and adverse effects already proven at the national and international level. In this sense, he said that it must be specified that “the preparations have only provisional emergency authorization” at the time of vaccination.
On the other hand, it defends that its ruling “is not involved in discussing scientific aspects such as the efficacy or safety of vaccines, nor the need or convenience of vaccinating minors.”
Government Responsibilities
Recarey explained that the ruling also “mandates the State to carry out its own, independent studies on the quality of the medicines that are imported. Not corresponding that for this it is, simply, to the manifestations of the manufacturer».
The fact that vaccination in Uruguay is not mandatory and depends on the decision of those responsible for the minors, for the Judge, “does not release the State from preparing the due informed consent. Mandatory or not, optional or not, the government must always and in any case present all the information to the interested person, an extreme that until now was not being fulfilled.
“Finally, it is clarified that the ruling provides that as soon as the government meets the levels of transparency that are imposed on it, vaccination must be resumed immediately,” the text ends.
