Ramiro Valdés calls to “rescue the microbrigades” to solve the housing problem in Cuba

MIAMI, United States. — The vice prime minister of the Cuban regime Ramiro Valdés Menéndez called in Santiago de Cuba to “rescue the state micro-brigades” to solve the housing problem on the island.

In a meeting recently held with authorities from that eastern Cuban province, Valdés Menéndez insisted on finding a solution for the thousands of people who live in cuarterías, houses with dirt floors, as well as those who lost their homes due to weather events.

Review the provincial newspaper Sierra Maestra that in the meeting “the Commander of the Revolution reflected on the need to rescue the movement of state and social micro-brigades promoted by Fidel and that, based on the merit of workers and neighbors, made possible the exponential increase of the housing fund in the country.”

In this sense, the leader insisted on the need to build homes and prioritize “the most humble.”

“The Revolution was made to dignify the humble, and the Revolution is by and for them; Despite the shortcomings, we have to continue building houses, first, for the most humble, ”he said.

Ramiro Valdés recalled that the 2019 Constitution, in its article 71, “recognizes all people the right to adequate housing and a safe and healthy habitat.”

“The State makes this right effective through housing construction, rehabilitation, and conservation programs, with the participation of entities and the population, in accordance with public policies, land and urban planning regulations, and laws,” said the Commander of the Revolution.

Valdés Menéndez also insisted on the existing corruption in the construction and housing sector.

“It cannot be that a few build majestic houses, others resell the materials, others neglect control and nothing happens. I do not conceive it and I do not allow it either; I can’t be in all the places but the pictures can”, he indicated.

In 2022, the housing construction plan in Cuba was not fulfilled again this year, only reaching 58%, a figure lower than the 76% that had been projected two months before the end of the year.
