At least 47 people lost their lives, 49 have been injured and seven more are missing due to the rainy season that the country has been going through for two months, reported the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD.
The agency detailed that, from March 16 to this Monday, May 9, the rains also left 18,100 families affected in all the country.
Equally, the increase in rainfall has affected 285 municipalities in 25 of the 32 departments that make up the country. The ones that have suffered the most damage are Antioquia, Cauca, Santander, Huila, Tolima and Nariño.

The precipitation too 185 homes were destroyed and another 9,300 were damaged by the action of the waters.
In other infrastructure there was damage to 480 highways, 48 vehicular bridges, 24 pedestrian bridges; 64 aqueducts, 27 sewers; 2 health centers and 54 educational institutions, most of them colleges or schools.

According to Risk Management figures, at this time 271 landslides, 129 floods, 64 flash floods have occurred37 gales, 13 storms, 11 torrential avenues and 4 hailstorms.
“This first rainy season has been much stronger. Reports indicate higher volumes of precipitation what has generated us since March 16, 529 events have already been registered, mostly mass movements and floods, which are the phenomena that affect us the most,” said the director in charge of the UNGRD, Fernando Carvajal.

The official added “This has been a season of much more rain, which has caused us serious damage” remembering that for the second consecutive year there is the La Niña phenomenon, which is derived from the cooling of the waters of the Pacific Ocean and since August of last year it has caused rains.
