Rio de Janeiro councilor Gabriel Monteiro (PL) presented, on yesterday (9), prior defense to the Council of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum of the City Council. He responds to a process of breach of parliamentary decorum.
The Public Ministry of Rio of January (MPRJ) investigates Monteiro for facts such as the use of public servants in the production of videos for his social networks, the dissemination of a video with sex scenes between the councilman and a 15-year-old teenager and the exposure of children and adolescents in a situation of vulnerability.
From the presentation of the defense, the instruction of the process begins, which can last from 30 to 45 days. After that, the rapporteur Chico Alencar (PSOL) gives his opinion on the case and space is opened for a new defense of Monteiro, if the report is based on the merits of the complaint.
The Ethics Council then votes on the rapporteur’s opinion and, if approved by the absolute majority of its members, it goes to vote in plenary.
The cassation must be decided by at least two to havecouncilors (34 of the 51 parliamentarians). The suspension of the councilor can be defined with only an absolute majority.
Gabriel Monteiro, who became famous for his videos on Youtube and who has millions of followers on his social networks, denies the accusations, says he is being persecuted and that the images used as evidence against him, released in the press, were manipulated.
“I will wait for justice. But how long will my innocence be proven? In three, four, ten years? As long as this lasts, I’ll have this weight on my shoulders. But even so, I will continue to do my job”, said the councilor, in a video published last week on his social networks.
