The Court of Guarantees ordered, at the request of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, through the Primary Attention Section, the provisional arrest of five people after the imputation of charges for the crime of aggravated robbery to the detriment of the National Bank of Panama was considered filed. .
The Public Ministry reported that the prosecutors Adela Heidi Cedeño, Jacinto Pérez and José Ayarza, presented the elements of conviction that allowed Judge Carmelo Zambrano to legalize the arrests and admit the requests of the Public Ministry for imputation and provisional detention. The defense of the accused filed an appeal, a hearing that will be held on October 17.
These five people, among whom are three officials of the National Bank of Panama and two individuals, were linked to the theft of B/.678,000.00 from the vault of the branch of the National Bank of Panama on Calle 25, Calidonia, registered on August 13 and 14, 2022.
All the defendants were apprehended during the Vault operation carried out this Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the Judicial Investigation Directorate and the National Police in Juan Díaz, downtown Panama, San Miguelito and Chepo.
In the proceedings, technological equipment and cash were seized, concluded the Public Ministry.
