In his Instagram account, the director of the Cicpc identified the deceased as Jean Carlos Govea Fernández, alias “Manita”, who supposedly was driving the motorcycle and was in charge of guarding the operations center of the gang responsible for the shootings at businesses.

the mayor spoke

In interview for SuchWhich, Mayor Rafael Ramírez Colina stressed that these incidents are “the most serious since we took office, because of the way they happened.” He pointed out that the same companies were in charge of providing coverage to his staff.

“Most of them are already at home, and only one remains in delicate but stable conditions at the Maracaibo University Hospital (…) The Mayor’s Office with its ambulances tried to help, but the companies took care of everyone who was there “, he pointed.

The deceased young man, identified as Luis Castilla, was the son of an official from the Maracaibo Mayor’s Office. “The necessary steps were taken to bury him today at noon,” said the mayor.

After the economic reactivation that we have had especially in the past year, the mayor commented, “there are few incidents that we have had regarding this type of crime (extortion and threats), together with the comprehensive approach to incidents by the security forces ».

Micro-trafficking of drugs and threats of extortion, with the use of grenades and now firearms, against locals are the most reported crimes in Maracaibo, Ramírez Colina explained. Like the rest of the country, they have seen a drop in car thefts and kidnappings.

In Zulia state, until August 24, 2022, there were approximately 11 attacks with grenades linked to extortion of businessmen, local owners and ranchers. The most affected municipalities were La Cañada de Urdaneta, Santa Rita and Miranda. This mechanism is a response to not paying “the vaccine” charged by criminal gangs operating in the region.
