Tarek William Saab assured that since he took office in 2017, his administration has recorded nearly 700 complaints of animal abuse and more than 500 detainees for various associated crimes.
The prosecutor imposed by the extinct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, reported that between January and June 2023, the Public Ministry (MP) processed 219 cases of animal abuse with a total of 146 people arrested.
Through an interview with the private channel Televen, Saab said that although most of those involved were punished with sentences between eight and 45 days in prison, he proposes tougher penalties for these crimes. He added that the number of detainees has risen to 551 since August 2017.
In this sense, he recalled that the security forces have dismantled gangs dedicated to the mistreatment of animals, in some cases to the point of death, in order to record these actions and market them through the Internet.
He remarked that some criminal organizations use children for these purposes, situations that are punished with “years” in prison, since they involve the commission of various crimes.
