Pronaf will provide BRL 60 billion to finance the 2022/23 Crop Plan

Pronaf will provide BRL 60 billion to finance the 2022/23 Crop Plan

The increase in demand for funding led the government to increase by R$ 6.54 billion the resources to be made available via the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf). Thus, the total reserved for this type of financing increased by 12%, from R$53.6 billion to R$60.1 billion.Pronaf will provide BRL 60 billion to finance the 2022/23 Crop Plan

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), most of this reinforcement (R$ 4.74 billion) will come from “new resources, from the allocation of an additional R$ 126.8 million in budgetary resources in 2022 to the 2022/23 Crop Plan”.

The other part (R$ 1.8 billion) will originate from relocations within the scope of federal public banks (Caixa, BNDES and Banco do Brasil).

“These resources will be allocated to banks that operate Pronaf Custeio and that have already signaled insufficient resources to meet the demand of farmers. Thus, R$ 6.07 billion will be forwarded to Banco do Brasil, and R$ 474 million to BNDES”, informed the ministry.

BNDES will also receive funds from the Low Carbon Agriculture Program (R$ 287.5 million) and from the Warehouse Construction and Expansion Program (R$ 438.5 million).

The government’s expectation is that there will be no interruption in the granting of financing at this time when the crop begins to be planted to serve small farmers.

The Map highlights that the 2022/2023 Crop Plan, launched in July, provides for R$340.9 billion in financing for national agricultural production until June 2023.

“Of the BRL 340.9 billion, BRL 30 billion has already been contracted, which corresponds to 8.8% of the total. More than 90% of the resources are available for contracting through the different institutions that operate in rural credit, in the modalities of funding, commercialization and investment”, detailed the ministry.
