Preventive prison against a woman arrested with drugs in a parking lot in Gascue

SANTO DOMINGO– The prosecution of the National District obtained three months of preventive detention against a woman who was arrested for possessing a kilogram of cocaine in her vehicle.

Eylis Jacqueline Reyes Ceballos, who must comply with the coercion measure at the Najayo Mujeres Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), was subject to a search by police officers on September 22, when she was in her car in the parking lot of a restaurant of Gascueon September 22.

Judge Juan Francisco Rodríguez Consoró, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District, accepted the request of the Public Ministry, which was represented during the hearing by the trial prosecutor Julio Saba Encarnación.

The request instance details that the arrest occurred on the morning of that day, when members of the National Police were carrying out patrol tasks and noticed that the woman reacted altered to their presence.

When inspecting the defendant’s car, Hyundai Sonata brand, the police found in the trunk a package of a white powder that, when analyzed by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), turned out to be chlorhydrated cocaine, weighing 1.02 kilograms.

The Public Ministry has granted the case the provisional legal classification of controlled substance trafficker, a crime provided for and punished in articles 5, letter A, and 75, paragraph II, of Law 50-88, on Drugs and Controlled Substances.
