The NGO Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners reported that three prisoners from the Carabobo Judicial Confinement Center, known as Tocuyito, and 40 detainees from the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), El Helicoide, began a hunger strike this Friday, January 3. to demand immediate release from the authorities.
Héctor Esqueda, imprisoned in Tocuyito, was the first to start the protest to ask for his freedom. He was later joined by two political prisoners, detained in the post-election context, to demonstrate “solidarity and resistance in the face of injustice.” He said that three days ago they were promised the release of some people, but they condemn that this has not materialized.
Esqueda was arrested on August 3 at the La Occidental service station, in San Carlos, Cojedes state, when he was carrying out some errands and was intercepted by officials of the National Guard and then detained by officials of the Division Against Organized Crime. of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB). He is accused of terrorism and inciting hatred.

The NGO urged the Maduro administration to address the situation of the prisoners, “put an end to these injustices and respect the fundamental rights of political prisoners.” They also insisted that the international community cannot remain indifferent to these violations committed in the country.
The Public Ministry reported that 1,369 detainees have been released after verification of cases with the Judiciary.
