The Union of Police Officials of Montevideo (SIFPOM), states that “the police are the first to witness these horrors that leave deep emotional scars like any human being”
This was expressed through a press release as a result of the event that occurred last Tuesday where a 48-year-old man murdered his two children, ages eight and nine.
The request for support is addressed to the Center for Attention to Victims of Violence and Crime (CAVI.D) and it is argued that normal work cannot continue, as if nothing had happened and naturalize the facts.
In addition, the statement clarifies that “it is still a must, to have a mental health professional in an emergency at the Police Hospital and not wait months for the consultation”
For her part, the president of the union, Patricia Rodríguez, mentioned on her Twitter account “it is obvious that a new mental health plan must be carried out according to the needs of the police officer,” noting that the union has already presented it.
The man involved in the case, he was placed under pretrial detention and is charged with specially aggravated homicide with pretrial detention for 180 days.
“These are the first measures that are taken. The facts are clear and what can be discussed here is the legal classification. The issue is what aggravating circumstances correspond to this case” mentioned the prosecutor of the Adriana Edelman case.
