Cooperation between Turkey and Venezuela increased as of 2016 with the arrival of Turkish Airlines, organizing the first official visit between the two countries in 2017 when the president, Nicolás Maduro, traveled to that country to meet with his counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In December 2021, Maduro said he had talked with Erdogan about the “great challenges” for both countries in the coming years and the need to advance in the areas of joint cooperation.
