The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Félix Plasencia, received on Thursday, April 27, at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who arrived from Ankara in order to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Both Plasencia and Çavuşoğlu reported on their social networks the arrival from Turkey of the foreign minister of that country to chair the third meeting of the high-level Joint Commission, announced in March by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister.

After landing on Venezuelan soil, the foreign ministers attended a meeting with businessmen; meeting that is part of the intention of both nations to deepen their relations in health, economy, agriculture, fishing, education, tourism and sports.

They also inaugurated in Caracas the San Román International School, of the Turkish foundation Fundación Turca Maarif, which in Foreign Minister Plasencia’s opinion “will contribute to the training of our young people and the cultural rapprochement of both peoples.”
The visit of the head of Turkish diplomacy to Venezuela was announced in March by Minister Plasencia, when he assured that he would seek to deepen bilateral cooperation in tourism with Turkey, in an upcoming meeting with authorities of the Eurasian nation in the city of Caracas. .
Cooperation between Turkey and Venezuela increased as of 2016 with the arrival of Turkish Airlines, organizing the first official visit between the two countries in 2017 when the president, Nicolás Maduro, traveled to that country to meet with his counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In December 2021, Maduro said he had talked with Erdogan about the “great challenges” for both countries in the coming years and the need to advance in the areas of joint cooperation.
