The trade union center stated that in order to modify the Collective Bargaining Law, the rules of the game will be changed regarding the conquest of benefits in the employment relationship, “ultra-activity” would be applied and in that case it will not be possible to discuss each right conquered.

The PIT-CNT assured that collective bargaining “is good for the country and for development.”

For this reason, the trade union movement defined that when the Executive Branch submits to Parliament the project to modify Law No. 18,566, on collective bargaining, it will call “to surround” the Legislative Palace.

It also set a strategic action plan that includes mobilizations that will conclude with the partial national strike on July 7.

The president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, assured that the union movement will defend collective bargaining. “They are changing the rules of the game, but in favor of the boss and Uruguay would be in a minority of countries.”

“The field is being arrowed against the workers and as if that were not enough, the president of the Chamber of Industry, Alfredo Antía, raises the aspiration that the Salary Council cannot define the salary increase. This would be virtually the liquidation of collective bargaining,” he stated.
