The president of Colombia, Gustav Petro, presented the conclusions of the “Binding Regional Dialogues”, from the border city of Cúcuta, in Norte de Santander.
During his speech, the president invited Nicolás Maduro so that Venezuela re-enters the Inter-American Human Rights System.
“I say in a respectful request to the neighboring country that we strengthen the Inter-American Human Rights System, so that there is no political persecution in South America, so that democracy can be deepened, so that freedom is synonymous with political change,” he said. .
Regarding Petro’s exhortation, in Cúcuta, the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, who was also at the meeting, he noted on his Twitter account: «We accompany the call made today, from Cúcuta, by President Gustavo Petro to his counterpart Nicolás Maduro to re-enter the Inter-American Human Rights System and strengthen us in South America”.

During the event, in the border city, Petro pointed out that illegal mafias have occupied this area, a situation that, he said, has prevented the correct economic reactivation.
In that sense, the president of the neighboring country said that from his government there will be changes to attack the border mafias and he aspires the same from the Venezuelan government.
“So we are going to make changes on this side and I am going to request changes from that side. It was time to talk to Maduro because this border is for the people, not for the mafias,” he said.
He also stated that, after a month of the border reopening between Venezuela and Colombia, “only 2.5 million dollars have passed in products here and there.”
Petro ordered the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Germán Umaña Mendoza, to do what is necessary to close the illegal steps, through which shipments would be passing in an unauthorized manner and with the participation of official officials.
«Because there uniformed officials, from there and from here are charging the commission and is this how we are going to build peace? Is this how we are going to build prosperity? Mr. Minister of Commerce, those trails are closed because they are closed. Here we go is to another path, not that some living people fill their pockets and get rich, ”he pointed out.
