The new president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, resigned from his position in Primary 37 years after joining the organization, as he had promised when he left the leadership of the PIT-CNT. The former trade unionist exposed on Facebook the resignation letter that he presented this Thursday to the head of the Department of Non-Teaching Personnel of Human Management, Adriana Viera.
Pereira recounted that he started as an elevator operator, and that “surely” that same day “his life changed” when the leader RaĂşl Vega of the Association of Primary School Officials (Afuprim) affiliated him with the union. “A few days later,” he recalled, “they were fighting for the reinstatement of 21 contracted workers, an achievement that the union obtained.”
“In my work I made many of my best friends, some with whom we were inseparable, we saw our children born and grow until they are men and women. The barbecues, the gatherings, the endless conversations, the search for the reason, the camps,” said the current president of the Broad Front.
Pereira recalled that “for things in life Doris Isnardi (former trade unionist and former chief) and other colleagues” offered him to join an Afuprim list in 1989. There he was elected president and later a member of the Secretariat of the Uruguayan Federation of Teachers (Fum- Tep) for 32 years”.
“The great Pepe Da Silva said: “Primary school is a family”, and with his hilarious humor he made fun of common things, leaks and buckets that lived with us for decades and at the same time he left a poem on the desk, a laugh or a caress to someone who was sad, and finally with those gestures of tenderness great families are built. There were thousands of gestures from this family to whom I thank for being a part, “he wrote.
“I am resigning convinced, at 55 years old, but at the same time thousands of beautiful memories entered my head that one day I will try to tell,” he assured. “Dear colleagues, my path has come to this point. And believe me, it hurts,” he said.
Pereira closed his message on social networks with a characteristic quote from the song by Alejandro Balbis, which he often used to illustrate his transition from the PIT-CNT to the leftist coalition: “Love is a shared riverbed, it crosses many landscapes, but it is the same river”.
