The NGO Laboratorio de Paz also reported 20 cases of reprisals for “providing goods and services” to presidential candidates and 13 cases of “retention of property.”
According to a report published by the NGO Laboratorio de Paz, a total of 76 people have been arbitrarily detained in the context of the electoral campaign for the presidential elections on Sunday, July 28.
The NGO reported that between July 4 and 19, 71 men and 5 women were arrested, most of them in Táchira state.
The monitoring carried out by Laboratorio de Paz, together with data from Foro Penal and Fundehullan, indicates that at least 28 cases of harassment were recorded by officials of the Bolivarian National Police (10), Sebin (5), civilian motorcyclists (2), INH (1), Conviasa (1), Seniat (1), hooded civilians (1), deputy Diosdado Cabello (1), Ortíz Municipal Chamber (1) and S/I (2).
As well as six cases of torture or cruel treatment (physical and psychological aggression, beatings, attacks, threats, intimidation), four cases of attempted retention of property, 13 cases of violation of freedom of expression and information, and cases of blocking of information verification sites and websites (Espacio Público, EsPaja, Observatorio de Fake News, Instituto de Prensa y Sociedad and Cazadores de Fake News).
They also reported 20 cases of retaliation for “providing goods and services” to candidates and 13 cases of “retention of property.”
In addition, the NGO Laboratorio de Paz highlighted that public resources were used in the campaign. “Mobilization and use of public transportation and proselytizing propaganda in favor of the ruling party. Proselytizing propaganda in favor of the ruling party candidate on websites and social networks of public institutions (web: 26.4%; Twitter: 91.1% and Instagram: 91.1%).
