On Tuesday, January 17, the death of a PDVSA worker in Zulia state was recorded due to a heart attack that he suffered at work. His colleagues tried to help him with the almost non-existent resources and they had to take the person affected in the drawer of a truck to a health center, but they did not succeed.
Alirio Villasmil, union leader of oil workers in Zulia state, denounced the precarious conditions in which they provide their services to Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) due to the lack of conditions for their safety.
In this way, Villasmil responded to what happened to Captain Freddy Rodríguez, 67 years old, last Tuesday, January 17, when he began to have symptoms of a heart attack while he was captaining the boat where he was.
His companions tried to give him first aid to save him and take him to pier 1 in Bachaquero, from where the boat had left, and help him better. However, there were neither medical personnel nor ambulances at the port to transfer him to a health center.

Rodríguez was transferred in the drawer of a truck to the PDVSA Bachaquero Integral Clinic, but he had already died of a heart attack, reported the whistle.
In this sense, Alirio Villasmil accused the administration of Nicolás Maduro of being responsible for this and other deaths within the oil industry for being the one who runs PDVSA and having reduced its capacities, services and benefits for the protection of workers.
“It has destroyed the occupational health of workers. There is no longer the right to life, but opportunities for deaths”, he warned Radio Faith and Joy on January 19.
He said that this situation has been taking place for years in the oil industry and said that there were about 10 ambulances at Bachaquero Pier 1, but that over time they deteriorated because PDVSA gave priority to hiring third parties rather than repair the units.

He also stated that the clinics that assist the workers are closed and destroyed. For this reason, in addition to blaming the president Nicolás Maduro for the situation, they blamed the president of the Federation of Oil Workers for what happened with the deceased worker because, in their opinion, they must guarantee a good collective contract and provide improvements to the workers.
He asserted that they seek to organize an activity in the four PDVSA oil stations in the country so that a precedent is set for what happened and that there are also those responsible. He stated that every day, those who go to the docks to work, have the risk of not returning home due to the lack of responsibility of the State. In addition, he warned that they are threatened by terrorist groups if they refuse to go to work.
