On the feast of the Divine Shepherdess, Monsignor Polito Rodríguez reiterated the call to the faithful to be in the procession of the Virgin on January 14
The Archdiocese of Barquisimeto, together with the parishioners, celebrated on Sunday, January 5, the solemn descent of the Divine Shepherdess from her niche, in the sanctuary of Santa Rosa, prior to what will be her 167th visit to the capital of Barquisimeto.
Monsignor Polito Rodríguez, archbishop of Barquisimeto, led the homily where he urged parishioners to join the Jubilee Year of the Church, called the “Year of Hope.”
He highlighted the importance of bringing a ray of hope to all those who find themselves in difficult situations, remembering that the Divine Shepherdess is an example of compassion and mercy.
In addition, he reiterated the call to the parishioners to go out in procession through the streets on the day of the Virgin and celebrate the beginning of the jubilee year. At the event, Monsignor Rodríguez opened the first holy door that frames the celebration of the jubilee year decreed by Pope Francis throughout the Catholic Church in the world.

After the Eucharist, the Marian invocation was carried by its guards to the center of the sanctuary of Santa Rosa and placed on its procession throne, while those present greeted the image dressed in the mantle that it will have on January 14; which has gold and white tones. It was donated especially by the Redemptorist Missionaries within the framework of their centenary in Venezuela.
The outfit symbolizes redemption and divine mercy, and will be one of the highlights of this year’s celebration.
According to the media, this is the second time that the Divina Pastora leaves her temple to share with the faithful, but the first time she takes a tour of Plaza Bolívar in the town of Santa Rosa.
