One person died of COVID-19 and 402 new infections this Friday in Cuba

One deceased person and 402 new infections was the balance of COVID-19 in Cuba at the close of this Friday, according to the country’s health authorities.

The fatal victim was a woman between 50 and 59 years old, from the eastern province of Granma, whose main comorbidity was being obese, reports the part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP). In this way, the infectious disease has already left 8,520 dead on the island, according to official statistics.

Meanwhile, with the new cases detected, the total number of them rose to 1,099,444 since the start of the pandemic, while the recovered patients are now 1,088,990 (99% of the total), thanks to the 477 medical discharges given on the most recent day.

At the close of April 15, 5,659 patients were admitted to Cuba for COVID-19, of which 3,724 were suspected, 60 under surveillance and 1,875 confirmed active. Of the latter, 1,847 had a stable clinical evolution, while 28 were in intensive care rooms: 12 critical and 16 serious, reports the MINSAP.

As for the new cases, these were detected after the analysis of more than 9 thousand samples and Camagüey, with 70 infections, was the most affected province. Then came Havana (56), Pinar del Río and Villa Clara (both with 38) and Artemisa (33).

Regarding their origin, 386 were contacts of confirmed cases, six had their source of infection abroad and in 10 it had not been possible to specify. 5.7% (23) were asymptomatic at the time of detection.

Finally, of the 402 diagnosed cases, 225 were female and 177 male, while by age group, those under 20 years of age were the most affected (146). Of the rest, 87 are between 20 and 39, 77 belong to the group of 40 to 59, and 92 are 60 or older.
