With the votes of the ruling party, the Constitution and Legislation Commission of the Senate approved the bill that seeks to regulate “co-responsibility in parenting” and thus consecrate the “shared custody” of minors born to separated parents. The new text, agreed upon in the ranks of the government coalition, was endorsed by five of the nine members after the commission received the testimony of the only delegation authorized to give its point of view.
This Tuesday, the president of the INAU, Pablo Abdala, appeared there who, in a personal capacity, gave his approval to the initiative, although he specified that the issue divides the organization’s management. According to Abdala, the director representing Cabildo Abierto, Aldo Velázquez, also supports the project. On the other hand, the representative of the Broad Front, Natalia Argenzio, opposes it.
The project will be sanctioned in the plenary session of the Senate on August 2. From there it will go directly to Deputies, where a very complex instance is opened. It is that there, in addition to the rejection of the Broad Front, the refusal of several members of the government coalition has been added.
The Colorado deputy María Eugenia Rosselló has already made it clear that she will not vote for the project. The same position advanced Iván Posada (Independent Party). For now, Roselló’s position is personal, but if it is extended to the rest of the legislators in the Ciudadanos sector, the future of the law appears compromised.
