Sales of new motor vehicles suffered a slight drop in July, when 307,709 units were sold: 0.5% less than that recorded in the same month of 2021 and 2.61% less than sales in June 2022. In the accumulated year (January to July), 1,958,945 units were sold, 2.65% less than recorded in the same period in 2021.
The data, released today (2), are from the National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave). Sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, motorcycles and road implements are taken into account.
“The drop can be explained by a set of factors, such as the lower supply, especially in the two-wheel segment, due to production problems and the greater restriction and increase in the cost of credit, since the default in vehicle financing , is at 4.5%”, highlighted the president of Fenabrave, José Maurício Andreta Júnior.
Sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles had an increase in sales in July of 4.13% compared to the same month of 2021. Compared to June 2022, there was an increase of 2.2%. In the year to July, there was a drop of 12.7% compared to the same period in 2021.
Fenabrave’s expectation is that, with the new reduction of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) for automobiles – which went from 18.5% (since February 25th) to 24.75% (from August 1st) – the segment sales grow in the coming months, reaching an increase of 4% at the end of the year, compared to 2021.
