Neighbors of Del Pilar, Mata and surrounding areas have expressed their concern and fatigue due to the recurring episodes of violence that occur in the area. According to statements given to Red Independiente, this problem has focused on a meat business, where a car attendant works who has been identified as violent and conflictive.
According to the residents, they do not understand how a person with this behavior is allowed to operate in a business and on public roads. In addition, the existence of an informal car-sitting organization in Melo was reported, which would be controlled by a “patron” centralized in the ATMs of Banco República.
This individual would be in charge of distributing money and commissions among those who work in different areas of the city.
The car attendant in question, who lives near the Municipal Cemetery but works on the aforementioned corner, was involved in a recent confrontation with two people armed with a knife. According to witnesses, the man was carrying irons during the altercation, while the other two individuals were carrying knives.
This fact, which increased fear in the area, led to the flight of the attackers, who are now being sought by the police.
Neighbors fear that the clashes could escalate and end in tragedy. In addition, they pointed out that the car attendant came from Montevideo a short time ago and that his behavior has generated growing tensions in the neighborhood.
The authorities have not yet officially commented on the situation, but residents insist on the need to take urgent measures to prevent violence from continuing to affect the tranquility of the community.
