Negotiations moving forward

Uruguay and Argentina negotiate a Permanent Residence Agreement and another for the validation of study titles

The possibility of signing a Driver’s License Homologation Agreement between both countries was also analyzed.

Uruguay and Argentina have made progress in negotiations to reach a bilateral Permanent Residence Agreement, as well as one on the recognition and validation of educational qualifications.

This was highlighted on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay in a statement in which it reported on what happened at the Fifth Meeting of Consular Consultations between both countries, led by the General Directorates of Consular Affairs of both Foreign Ministries.

“During the aforementioned meeting, various issues were addressed, including the progress of negotiations to reach a bilateral Permanent Residence Agreement, as well as the start of dialogue to conclude an Agreement on the Homologation of Driving Licenses and an Agreement on the recognition and revalidation of study titles related to the exercise of liberal professions,” the document details.

He added that there was also an exchange on the practices and initiatives of each country in terms of diaspora engagement policy.

“The aforementioned bilateral mechanism of Consular Consultation Meetings aims to advance tangible responses to the demands for facilitating procedures and the resulting improvement in the quality of life of nationals of both countries residing in the territory of the counterpart,” the text concludes.
