Santo Domingo – The Presidency of the Dominican Republic, through the Permanent Commission of National Ephemeris, the Ministry of Defense, the Valverde Government, the Mao City Council and the Barranquita Committee, will commemorate this Sunday, July 3, the 106 anniversary of the Battle of Barranquita.
On July 3, 1916, it is inscribed in the glorious pages of the Republic as the Battle of Barranquita, when a group of Dominicans stood up to the first US military invasion, staging an unequal combat where steel patriotism confronted an army mighty and imperial.
The Battle of Barranquita is propriety, chivalry, honor and loyalty to the national cause, that is why on July 3, 1916, it confirms the tumultuous linearity of our nation of combatant Dominicanness, Dominicanness resistant Dominicanity always.
The activity will begin at 8:00 in the morning, at the Barranquita Battle Monument, in Mao, with the raising of the flag and interpretation of the National Anthem.
Then, the reading of the order of the day by the Ministry of Defense, followed by military style honors and the deposit of floral offerings by different institutions.
At the event, Deysi Aquino, Governor of Valverde, Antonio Disla, President of the La Barranquita Committee, and Odalis Rodríguez, Mayor of the Mao City Council, will speak. As well as Juan Pablo Uribe, who will be in charge of the final words, while the review of the deed will be in charge of Colonel Historian Sócrates Suazo Ruiz, from the Ministry of Defense.
Finally, at 9:00 in the morning, a Te Deum will be held at the Santa Cruz de Mao Cathedral.
