MSP recommends preventive measures against the possible appearance of the Aedes aegypti mosquito

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) published a list of measures to prevent the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in the face of the combination of climatic factors, heat and rainfall, which increase the probability of its appearance.

In addition to weather conditions, the opening of borders increases the risk of entry of people sick with dengue, zika or chikungunya and let the autochthonous transmission of these viruses through the Aedes aegypti mosquitoaccording to the portfolio statement published on its website.

From the Ministry, it is suggested avoid all kinds of unnecessary accumulation of water in houses, funds, patios, roofs and gardens. As well as going through the open spaces after each rainfall to empty the containers that have collected water.

It is also recommended check drains and gutters to free them from clogging leaves or debris. The portfolio also issued a series of recommendations to protect yourself from bites:

  • Wear thick, light clothing that covers most of the body
  • Repellent according to the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Mosquito nets on doors and windows
  • Tulles on the beds of small children and babies
  • Thermo-evaporable or spiral tablets

Symptoms of a dengue, Zika, or chikungunya bite may present as fever, rash, muscle or joint pain. Although they are common symptoms in covid-19 cases, the MSP insists on the importance of making a medical consultation in the event of the appearance of any of these symptoms, since they can lead to other diseases that are already circulating in the region.
