The Public Ministry reported on the death of Juan Manuel Almeida Morgado, one of the people investigated by the PDVSA-Crypto plot.
The attorney general, Tarek William Saab, published the information on his account on the social network Twitter.
In the message, Saab specified that Almeida’s death was caused by cirrhosis of the liver, a terminal disease diagnosed a long time ago.
It also indicated that at the time of his death, the defendant was at home, where he remained after he was granted the humanitarian measure of house arrest.
“He Public ministry reports the death of citizen Juan Almeida who suffered -for a long time- from a terminal illness diagnosed as cirrhosis of the liver: at the time of his death, he was at his residence: after being granted the humanitarian measure of house arrest, due to being one of those investigated for the PDVSA/Crypto plot”, the Prosecutor published on the social network.
Juan Manuel Almeida Morgado was arrested last Wednesday April 5 in a search of his residence located in the El Orticeño urbanization, Libertador municipality (Palo Negro), Aragua state.
Subsequently, he entered a health situation that required his transfer to a clinic, the site where the 2nd Court of Control of Caracas was established and held the presentation hearing in which he was charged.
Together with him, his brothers Jorge Luis and Carlos Jesús Almeida Morgado were arrested, who were also charged before the 2nd Control Court.
The Almeida Morgados are linked to the “PDVSA-Cripto” plot, a file related to parallel operations to the oil industry to sell Venezuelan crude without the State receiving the foreign currency resulting from those transactions, which were carried out from the National Superintendence of Cryptoactives (Sunacrip), according to the explanation offered by the Public Ministry.
