In order to promote the development of hockey in Uruguay, since 2016 Movistar has been the main sponsor of the Uruguayan Hockey Federation (FUH). Part of the evolution and professionalization of this sport in the country was the construction of the Celeste Field, the first water hockey field in Uruguay, which was officially inaugurated.

Movistar supports different disciplines of Uruguayan sport, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging amateur and professional athletes to enjoy the benefits of exercising and healthy competition, both locally and internationally.

“We have accompanied the Uruguayan Hockey Federation for more than 6 years, supporting all male and female categories, promoting the professionalization of this sport. We are proud to have a professional water hockey field in Uruguay and it is an honor for those of us who are part of Movistar to have collaborated to make this possible. Teamwork and perseverance are values that we see reflected today in the creation of the Celeste Field, which brings together the most innovative aspects of this sport and will allow it to be brought closer to more people. We hope that those who play hockey can take advantage of it and enjoy it”, said Leticia Lago, Director of Public Affairs of Telefónica Movistar.

After the official ceremony, the Rio de la Plata Cup match took place, played between the Cimarronas (Uruguayan team) and the Leonas (Argentine team), world runners-up.

Movistar authorities were present on the occasion; Sahir Ahmed, president of the International Hockey Federation; Sebastián Bauzá, Secretary of Sport; Julio Maglione, president of the Uruguayan Olympic Committee.
